[edit]- Wealth
I changed the line that read
- "I am defeated by money, I dont have any"
to
- "I am defeated by wealth, I dont have any"
because the Swahili term mali translated here means wealth or property, not just money.

- My angel
Could it mean my angel, rather than simply angel? Dean Turbo (talk) 19:44, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
- Syntactically the phrase nakupenda malaika (structured root verb penda with noun, essentially I love you my angel) implies possession. Standing on its own, malaika is a possessive neutral noun, and could have various meanings (see next remark). Peter b (talk) 13:59, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
The KiSwahili word malaika has a number of meanings, and strictly speaking, angel would probably not be the most likely usage in normal conversation (see Kamusi Project definition of malaika). However, this article is principally about the various songs with the name Malaika, and as such, the best known of these being the popular version(s) which metaphorically speaks the narrative of a man's lover as though she were an angel. This is reasonable enough given that most people accessing this page are likely to be searching for information about either the well known titular songs or the meanings of the words used in them - all of which are satisfied in the article or included references. What the article fails to mention and maybe should do is the alternate meaning of a bird's downy feathers or an animal's fur? Peter b (talk) 13:59, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
Edouard Masengo
[edit]http://www.katanganews.com/culture05.htm claims Masengo wrote the song. Is that founded? --moyogo 15:35, 15 November 2006 (UTC) http://www.rfimusique.com/musiqueen/articles/066/article_7532.asp only states Masengo taught the song to Makeba. --moyogo 15:37, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
