• @NotablePeopleFan: It certainly needs to be improved. I nearly tagged it for speedy deletion while patrolling new pages. I did find some news sources about it, but it's still flimsy at best. Right now, just enough to pass speedy deletion review. But, an AfD would probably delete it.   • @Hammersoft and NotablePeopleFan: - I have cleaned it up extensively and added a lot more references. It's now covered by CNN and Washington Post, and not just fringe sports outlets. The newly called "mannequin challenge" first emerged back in the early 70's in a New York beach club. Back then it was just called "mannequin". You called out the word Mannequin, directed the word at a specific person who would have to stand in place and could not speak, until another player shouted out "un-mannequin". Lots of fun in a crowded beach club bar on Labor Day when you stuck your friend with the check and they couldn't answer anyone who attempted to talk to them. Barb

The article references 3 'inventors': students in Florida, an early Improv Everywhere (which was not an attempt at the Mannequin Challenge) and then says the inventor is Burna Boy. Notable instances

The Mannequin_Challenge#Notable_instances section is getting ridiculously long. We do not need to include every time the challenge was done, even if it was reported by reliable sources. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Some examples of occasions when it has happened are suitable, but the exhaustive list we have now is way over the top. Unless there are serious objections, I'll be trimming this down very significantly in the near future. --Hammersoft (talk) 19:30, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Agree in general, but I object to trimming it arbitrarily. I do agree that it should really be either 1) early and influential example or 2) notable works as examples. Posting the fact that someone's national soccer team did a video is not notable, unless you were the first or second to do so, or if a major soccer star took part. Similarly, no need for all artists to be mentioned here, unless they did something novel like during a live concert with thousands of people (Garth Brooks), or it's Paul McCartney. -- Fuzheado | Talk 15:51, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

We should really be looking to rewrite all of this as prose paragraphs, more like the history section of Ice Bucket Challenge. The current list of "yep, another sports team" isn't very enlightening to read, and gives only a very loosely implied sense of how the mannequin challenge emerged and was popularised. --McGeddon (talk) 09:18, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

• As seen from the various protected edit requests plus the content as it still is, this article has become a dumping ground of every single time the challenge has been done and reported on somewhere, somehow. This article needs to be gutted, dramatically rewritten, and stop being used as an infinite list of every time it's going to be done. If someone wants to start a notional List of every time in history the Mannequin Challenge has been done or some such, have at it. A video is essential here, and thanks for providing it, but we should have an image as well - Wikipedia content often ends up in print contexts (whether it's compiled into a book or just printed out on a home printer), and articles should still make sense when viewed that way. --McGeddon (talk) 21:10, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Looks like you've gone ahead and picked File:JU_Mannequin_challenge_01.jpg. Apart from a slight telltale glassiness from the guy on the right, this looks more like a photo of two guys looking at something, and the other photos in that category also seem more like photos than freeze-frames. Although it's a bit dark and low quality, I think File:Mannequin Challenge.jpg martial arts screenshot illustrates the concept more clearly, being a more dramatic shot. Also include the reason as to why they started this challenge and their academic standing in school at Ed H. White Military Academy of Leadership in Jacksonville, Florida. They all have GPA's of 3.5 or higher. Lastly include that the reason why they started this is because they had time between classes and believe that if the world could collaborate on a challenge they started then there is more that can be done. Inventor

A quick research to fact check and you'll find numerous sources that all state the same thing, the challenge started at Ed White High School in Jacksonville Fl. It had nothing to do with Dr. Dre's Kush video, it was just a class prank that they were convinced to record and upload.
