Possible connection to assaults and murders the day of the 1976 Lemont Tornado[edit]

Fellow authors,

Based upon research I have been conducting on the June 13, 1976, tornado which struck near Lemont, Illinois, I have found information that suggests a connection between events that day and some of the conflicts occurring near Marquette Park and nearby Chicago neighborhoods. The storm in question moved quite slowly, leading to very heavy rain and widespread flooding on the south side of Chicago. This flooding impacted many expressways, causing motorists to exit expressways to use local streets to continue through the city. News reports at the time mention groups of african american citizens attacking some of these cars, leading to multiple injuries and one death. The articles also suggest that these actions may have been retribution for earlier issues with whites attacking blacks on the south side of Chicago. They are likely referring, at least in part, to these conflicts which occurred in/near Marquette Park.
