While admittedly this individual does not meet the exact definition WP:ATHLETE, I will challenge: What International competition existed for women Marathoners and Long Distance Runners in the early 1970's? Women did not run longer than 1500 meters in the Olympics until 1984. One could only point to a comparison between performers. Referenced in the article, Boitano was Internationally ranked in the top 20 amongst all open women; she won what was the largest footrace in the world, outright, three times in a row; and still holds the course record on the oldest Cross Country race in the United States. She was notable as a female athlete. She was MORE notable and is the subject of external articles because she did all of these achievements before the age of 13. Since she is now an adult and did not continue competing at the elite level, this is not a speculative article about a budding youth athlete but a statement of actual notable, historical achievements. I have removed the PROD to challenge on these grounds. Trackinfo (talk) 22:16, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the above. The edit history also shows that it was much too hasty to nominate this for deletion. Location (talk) 04:28, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
