German unit
[edit]My best guess is that the unit Kuzmin's partisans were fighting was (Reserve-)Polizei-Bataillon 11, commanded by Major der Schupo Franz Lechthaler. According to Stefan Klemp and Wolfgang Curilla, it was PB 11 that was assigned to anti-partisan ops in the Velikie Luki area in late 1941 and early 1942. —Zalktis (talk) 09:42, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
- According to Boris Polevoy, the German unit was a battalion of the 1st Mountain Division (Germany). Any additional sources?.. --Fastboy (talk) 19:57, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- A quick note: Polevoy was a journalist (and a writer, too), you can't expect exact OOB from him. As for his story: - when was it introduced into 3rd grade reading list? I don't recall anything about that in my third grade, and I have a fairly good memory. 212.188.109.181 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:58, 28 June 2009 (UTC).
This shows that the story is included in the school curriculum of 3 classes today, but I learned this story from the textbook "Native speech" in the mid 70's. Sfrandzi (talk) 19:01, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
Can somebody check whether he is a real Hero of the S.U. This is a widespread view, but I can't find any confirmation of this.
Amazingly the Rusian version of Wikipedia doesn't have an entry for this, perhaps it is entirely propaganda?

- Hi, Smallbones. No need to fear. Check out the link I added to the list. —Zalktis (talk) 16:02, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. Got it and will put in an inline reference, with maybe a few details. Smallbones (talk) 15:04, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Inventions
[edit]Partisans and other - an invention, it is not known whence arisen. All sources speak, that Kuzmin should deduce Germans on positions of the Soviet army. Polevoy in the story for children writes, that Kuzmin as if worked as the watchman in kolkhoz, but in a diary it writes, that Kuzmin was unique remained in village "individualist", he considered as "counter-revolutionary" ("kontrik") and consequently nobody was surprised, when he has agreed to help Germans. Certainly, it were details not for the children's reading book. Sfrandzi (talk) 20:23, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
