From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apparently, Nolan's full name is: "Michael Mary Aloysius Nolan" he stated as much in this interview with Mike Ried in November 2017. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w-bWgM_Kc4 (start at 10.57). "Mary" is his given name, and "Aloysius" is his confirmation name. Furthermore, information about his injuries during the 1984 bus crash are also given earlier on in the interview. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8308:1BE:A00:7582:F1A8:7514:E49D (talk) 14:15, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Problem Sections

[edit]

Have just attempted to correct a few grammar and spelling difficulties on this page. Also toned down some of the language. I thought "serious" was slightly more neutral than "horrific", for example. There were a few sentences and paragraphs that I believe were probably invented and that I've taken out:
1. "Both Mike and Bobby are known to support the individuals right to choose their own sexual orientation (according to media reports)." - And so does everybody else in the world - even those who would argue that gay people should stay celibate. I find it hard to believe they would actually say that and the unnamed source should be quoted if they did.
2. "Nolan's Philosophy" - It seems to be a summary of Kant's views. The quote is introduced "Nolan explained (in a not disimilar way to Kant) that..." - It's not at all disimilar - in fact Kant and not Nolan said it.
3. "Beverly Sisters" The assertion of a distant relationship isn't supported by anything I can find on the internet. I'm removing it because I think it'll circulate as a rumour for years if it gets onto Google. A search for "Mike Nolan" and "second cousin twice removed" brings up nothing and as this was added at the same time as 2 (above) there's good enough reason to suspect a hoax.--Lo2u (TC) 18:40, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

4. I've just removed the charity work section too. The only part relating to individual charity work was a single unattributed statement that he does lots for good causes. Again I can find nothing on Google - though it is difficult to know where to start for this search. No doubt he's done some charity work but that can be said of most public figures. On the assertion that Bucks Fizz nearly performed the first act at Live Aid, as far as a I can tell they didn't even play and there's no mention of this in the Bucks Fizz article.--Lo2u (TC) 00:24, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Facts?

[edit]

A few problems here... Exactly how is it fact that Mike Nolan is an excellent cook? This is pure opinion. I'm not aware of him winning any cookery awards or has ever worked in the professional catering trade. If you are claiming that he can cook well at home - well this is a plainly ridiculous comment to put into a fact-based article about a singer.

"Rumoured to have suffered brain damage" I'm sorry, but how is rumour appropriate here. It is also a very dangerous statement to make about someone. If you have any facts regarding this and how it affects this person in their professional capacity, then please state them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tuzapicabit (talkcontribs) 15:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also the phrase 'fell-out with' is a little ambiguous. I would also be careful about the comment that Bobby appears as a 'variation' of Bucks Fizz, since he currently perfoms in the only officially recognised Bucks Fizz

As for Mike and Bobby being gay icons - I have never once heard this as popular opinion. Sure, they may be admired by gay people, but so are a lot of famous people. This would also lead to the need to remove the fact that Bucks Fizz fans are both gay and straight. (Which is a completely useless statement anyway - as it would probably apply to every single famous person in the world!). Sorry if I'm sounding a bit harsh, but I do think the article needs tightening up and relying a bi more on actual facts about this person. Tuzapicabit (talk) 15:36, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I have rewritten the page. It's a bit better now I hope.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 18:48, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
