Two quick things:

  • Hermann has mostly been remembered since her death from photos taken at the constitutional convention. She was the convention's temporary presiding officer, but that took a back seat to the images of a rather heavyset woman seated at her desk, with a large rolling pin resting on said desk. There actually is a story behind that, but I've long since forgotten the details.
  • Hermann has been frequently confused, even in reliable sources, with two other prominent Juneau residents of the same era and bearing the same given name: Mildred Banfield, whose husband was a law partner of Robert Boochever and who served as an early state legislator representing Juneau; and Mildred Meiers Hansen, who ran a legislative reporting service during early statehood (Mildred Hermann herself performed a similar task during latter-era territorial legislatures).
