Fair use rationale for Image:Babf11.jpg

Image:Babf11.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ohh

somebody beat me to the comfortably numb reference! haha —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.232.74.200 (talk) 04:34, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Hagar the Horrible

Hagar the Horrible is an American cartoon strip. Although it's true that the British Sun newspaper syndicates it, it isn't a British reference. Silas Maxfield (talk) 22:29, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Pump Up the Volume

I've removed the reference to Pump Up the Volume - primarily because Homer actually says, "Crank up the volume." It was a bit of a stretch anyways... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.243.84.25 (talk) 03:55, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Unsourced

Below was unsourced material in article. Moved from article space to talk page space. Could be added back into the article at a later point in time, if sourced. Cirt (talk) 02:08, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Cultural references

  • Reference 1 is incorrect. Garrison Keillor does not appear in this episode. The author of the article must have confused this episode with another episode featuring PBS in which Garrison Keillor DOES appear (at the very beginning of the episode): "Marge On the Lam." Garrison Keillor is NOT among the PBS crowd chasing homer. I think that the author of the article has confused Garrison Keillor with Fred (Mr.) Rogers, who IS among the crowd, as referenced below.

British references

  • At the start of the episode, Bart asks Homer why he's watching PBS. Homer says that it shows many English sitcoms, and uses the British insult "Wankers".
  • Heard in the background of Do Shut Up is the Sex Pistols classic song "No Feelings".
  • Betty White mentions that Do Shut Up is the longest-running series on British Television and that PBS is running "all seven episodes", a reference to the relatively paltry number of episodes made per year (in comparison to American television) of sitcoms such as Fawlty Towers and Black Adder.
  • Briefly seen after the PBS ident on the Simpsons' TV is a representation of the famous 1968-1989 Thames Television ident, the ITV London Weekday franchise holder from 1968 to 1992.
There may not be a reference to be had on this, but the 'Thames' ident would be familiar to American audiences from preceding reruns of the 'Benny Hill Show'. The gag here is an homage to PBS airing British comedies. 2601:183:C200:BD9E:F0E6:7B3B:6AB1:77CE (talk) 01:05, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
