Title of special[edit]

Despite the cover of the DVD, the on-screen title of this 1962 television special is Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol, not Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol. — Walloon 23:56, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lyrics[edit]

Songs[edit]

It seems clear that Bob Merrill is the main lyricist. But although he is said to have worked with Jule Styne, JS has no official credits for this work on imdb, so it is not clear that JS actually was involved here, or who composed these songs. 69.87.203.243 14:30, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at the Jim Hill article in the references. Merrill (the lyricist) and Styne (composer) wrote Funny Girl together. Rumor has it that "People", the Barbara Streisand hit, was originally written for Magoo as Scrooge. Can you tell from the video if we can specifically credit Merrill as the lyricist and Styne as the composer for this work, instead of the more generic "songs by Jule Styne, Bob Merrill"? Seems odd that imdb would be wrong, doesn't that mess up their residuals? I don't know that there's a source online to correct song titles for this; I imagine that whoever handles the publishing rights to the music would have that, but I have no idea who that is. (I can try to find out, though.) Let me look at my video again tonight for whether it specifically doles out the composer and lyricist credits one-to-one, but I think it does. June Foray has a little text bio - I'll doublecheck that, too. As I said, the extras aren't very complete or extensive - only about four voice actors got text bios: Backus, Amsterdam, Cassidy and Foray. As for IMDB, it's largely a wiki. Studios and entertainment people submit info, but so does the general public, and older credits tend to be fan-generated. Overview[edit]

I removed the claim there was a reprise of "Winter is Warm" sung by Scrooge's old flame. It was false. I saw it in the 1960's, and tape recorded it back then (reel to reel) and listened to it countless times and the scene never existed. Originally, the source for it was someone who cited it in their IMDb review, where they claim to have seen it in the seventies (after it was cut to make room for more commercials) and admitted nobody else remembers that scene! Then that citation was deleted and there was no replacement source. If someone wants to put the information back and has a legitimate source to back it up, I'll leave it alone. But it is ridiculous to put that in Wikipedia based on what is almost certainly a faulty memory. The current DVD version is fully restored and doesn't have a reprise of "Winter is Warm" because there never was one.

Patrick Stewart version[edit]

"...little or no simplification of the language to suit a younger or less literate audience living over a century later, as there is in Patrick Stewart's made-for-TV version." I've watched this (Patrick Stewart's) version many times and have never noticed the dialogue being simplified. The link in the citation doesn't even mention it. A slight nitpick.[edit]

As of now, the article says that Scrooge buys the Cratchit family a Christmas turkey. However, this takes place in Victorian England, where the most likely holiday bird would have been a goose. I doubt that turkeys would even have been available there and then. Alas, I don't think that it's specified anywhere just what type of fowl he bought. JDZeff (talk) 06:24, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
