Monarchy in Ontario → Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario —

We should move Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario to List of Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario, as that article is clearly a list. I would also like to do this move because Monarchy in Ontario is more appropriately named Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, which also redirects to Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario. "Monarchy of Ontario" is pretty much an article about the "Lieutenant Governor of Ontario". I have not listed this as an "uncontroversial" move because the edit summaries for these articles seem to indicate a number of disputed manual moves. In fact, once "Monarchy in Ontario" is moved to "Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario" and "Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario" becomes "List of Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario", the other articles only need their re-directs changed.   • Oppose move of Monarchy in Ontario to Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario - the former is clearly not majoritively about the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario; it covers the vice-regal's duties, but goes on to outline the history of monarchy in the province, royal tours of the province, royal names, etc., etc. Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario should redirect to either Monarchy in Ontario or to List of Lieutenant-Governors of Ontario--G2bambino 15:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I still advocate the move to L-G. If there are other "Monarchy in..." titles, those can be changed, too. They're not set in stone. The reality is that the majority of users would be looking for LG, not "monarchy in..." (see Wikipedia:Naming conventions). If there is some need to expand beyond the LG (which is not really necessary) there can be an article on the LG's office and an article on the history of the monarchy within a province. In fact, given that there is no crown but the crown of Canada (there is no "Queen of Ontario", just "Queen of Canada"), the whole need for a "Monarchy in [Prov]" is unnecessary. The history, royal tours, and all that really does fall within the subject of the office of the LG in the province. It's a red herring to say that the trappings subsume the substance.     • It also comes to mind that "Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario", being the more commonly used/searched phrase, will not need piping and redirecting, so as to avoid having to constantly use "[[Monarchy In Ontario|Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario]]". Agent 86 03:48, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is no "Queen of Ontario", no, but because of the co-sovereignty of the provinces, there is a "Queen in Right of Ontario," who is represented by the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario. There is also a history of the Crown in Ontario that is not related solely to the L-G. So, I still do not agree with a full move of this article to Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario. That said, though, I suppose the sections Vice-regal and Official residences, which are Ontario vice-regal specific, could be moved to Lieutenant-Governor of Ontairo; and Duties, Royal Assent, and Legal role apply to all L-Gs, so they could be placed in Lieutenant-Governor (Canada), if not there already. What I like about this page is it's all combined to one easy to read article, if we split, a reader would have to juggle reading 2 or more different pages to get the jist of what this article covers Brian | (Talk) 05:38, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

U.E. Common?[edit]

The article states "U.E." is used as a postnominal by "many southern Ontario residents". In my experience in Ontario over 30 years, it is not something seen in common useage. Would the writer be able to provide a better reference, if not actual numbers? Fair use rationale for Image:Ontariocoatofarms.png[edit]

Image:Ontariocoatofarms.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
