Made article generic

[edit]

The article was previously about Palmwood, which is a commercial product. I amended it to refer to coconut timber generically, and moved references to the commercial product to a section on Brands. --Magicfiji 16:32, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

This article contains no references at all. It brings all-good-news as a commercial brochure would. Most of this article has been written in a single edit by a single contributor. I'm proposing to delete this article on the grounds of Verifiability and Neutral Point of View. Please discuss at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Palmwood --Philippe 14:21, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Major cleanup

[edit]

I removed the bulk of the article because it hase no references at all, as was discussed at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Palmwood. --Philippe 11:12, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response from single contributor

[edit]

Hi Philippe. I see that much of my contribution to this article has been deleted, which I'm disappointed about. This is part of a paper I wrote for an assignment on sustainability. I added it to Wikipedia because I found no information on Palmwood on the site when I first started my research, and thought I could now contribute something to what is a very topical subject (i.e. reducing the impact of human activity on the environment by using alternative, sustainable materials).

Taking as given that such a topic is of relevance to an encyclopaedia like Wikipedia, my understanding is that my material was removed for lack of credibility and supporting references. In this case, I would like to point to the following sources of my information.

I referenced these books/articles:

  • Modern Coconut Management: palm cultivation and products; J.Ohler (1999)
  • Asia-Pacific Forestry Sector Outlook Study: Focus on Coconut Wood; Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (1997)
  • Tapping the Tree of Life; W.Pyper (2001)
  • Coconut Program Area Research Planning and Prioritization; C.Aragon (2000)
  • Coconut Wood Processing and Use; Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (1985)
  • State of the Art: Cocowood Utilization; R.Palomar (1990)

This is a photo I took of a Palmwood house in my area.

In short, I believe that you should reconsider your deletion of my contribution. Trim it down or change the wording if you wish, but the information should be kept as it is informative and reliable.

Incidentally, the link that now exists on the Palmwood page to Pacific Green USA should probably be updated to the website of the Pacific Green head office (www.pacificgreeninternational.com). Pacific Green USA is merely one of that company’s sales outlets, and I believe only for the Los Angeles area.

Dominic, London

... I have updated the article based on feedback, and removed any original research.
