"Regarded by many"

[edit]

Authenticity check: A search reveals that the phrase "regarded by many" appears in the text. Is the phrase a symptom of a dubious statement? Could a source be quoted instead? Perhaps the "many" could be identified? Might text be edited to more genuinely reflect specific facts?

It's safe to say that his books on the 1975 are widely regarded as the best available treatement. But, yes, we should provide a source for that statement. Newspapers from around 11-Nov-2005 might be a good place to start looking. CWC(talk) 15:54, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Australian editor

[edit]

Does anyone know what the 'editor-at-large' and 'editor-in-chief' distinction refers to? It sounds a bit like an in-joke from the paper itself and needs to be elaborated upon. Ashmoo 03:08, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The jobs are different. An Editor-in-chief is where the buck stops for getting each day's paper out of the door. Kelly's role is that of a journalist, but one without the supervision of a Section Editor -- in effect reporting to himself, an "Editor at Large". Furthermore, Editor in Chief is a common position in a paper, whereas Editor at Large is an invented position, presumably to keep Paul with The Australian and as The Oz's way of honouring a staff member who has produced outstanding work for thirty years.
