Post-nominals in infobox

[edit]

Just to clarify, adding post-nominals to an infobox is not "cluttering", especially if they are not referenced elsewhere in the infobox. The fact the information is in the article is irrelevant, as most content from the infobox is. OGBC1992 (talk) 23:07, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Two editors have disagreed with you and this is now verging on edit warring. There is no reason for "PC, DL" to appear in the infobox. The infobox already clearly indicates that Inge was a peer and his full postnominals are located just slightly to the left in the lead. The usage here is also inconsistent with similar articles and it makes little sense to cherry pick postnominals to place in the infobox. Abraham, B.S. (talk) 23:37, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In my view the postnominals are cluttering. They have been added four times now in quick succession which clearly is edit warring. Please read WP:3RR urgently. Dormskirk (talk) 00:43, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Whether the infobox indicates he was a peer or not is irrelevant as the postnominals I’m adding don’t refer to that - only his status as Privy Counsellor and Deputy Lieutenant, neither of which are referred to in the infobox. The etiquette is that peers who are privy counsellors use PC as a post-nominal - the fact he was also military doesn’t change this. Nor does the idea that because it’s in the intro it shouldn’t belong in the infobox - other sections are repeated, such as battle experience, which is not being removed/reverted.

(I’d contend that under the 3RR it’s the constant reversions, not the adding, which constitutes edit-warring but that’s by the by)

Also, I’m confused why one of the two editors seemingly against the inclusion of PC/DL (NOT GCB et al, as I’ve said) thanked me for my edit only to now accuse me of cluttering. Mixed messages! OGBC1992 (talk) 09:31, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nevertheless, the consensus is not to include the letters so please abide by the consensus. Dormskirk (talk) 09:41, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

‘Consensus’ (two people, in less than 24 hours discussion) doesn’t override the actual rules on these things though. OGBC1992 (talk) 10:09, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
