Moving Genera and Species[edit]

Thank-you @Peter coxhead: and @Plantdrew: for your comments (elsewhere). My current 'can of worms' is related to this genus and started with the many re-assigned species here - there may be more. I am especially interested in the species listed as present here in southern Vietnam, that have been moved from and to Polyalthia: with all the names so far moved either to Monoon (page recently created) or Huberantha. I will be guided by you as to how many pages should be changed (many created by PolBot - see Talk:Polyalthia pingpienensis), but have edited and will propose changing Polyalthia cerasoides because it is the type species of the new genus (and also occurs here!). Wouldn't it be more efficient to request moves for other species I know about (with a reference, edits to the first line, speciesbox and taxonbar), using a generic form of words? As a non-botanist, I rely heavily on websites such as POWO and have occasionally had to set-up new wikidata items ... should it be a matter of concern that this site (and IPNI, but not GBIF) is the only source so far? An example is Phaeanthus malabaricus, which now should belong to this genus ... and then there are the other genera that also need updating! Roy Bateman (talk) 08:47, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Roy Bateman: if you are following PoWO, and adding it as a reference in the article, there's no need to request moving – just do it. Plant editors will support the move; non-plant editors don't generally understand taxonomic issues. If you can't move an article because of edits to the destination or some other problem, then I'm happy to do it – just ask. Peter coxhead (talk) 09:34, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
