Re: Honours and awards
[edit]I notice from his uniformed infobox photograph he wears an Iron Cross, not mentioned in the list in the text - of what degree would it be to be worn like this, and was it awarded by then as a Prussian or Imperial German honour? He must have seen some frontline service to be awarded it, most likely during WWI. During his early lifetime, apart from colonial campaigns and the Boxer Rising in China, Germany was not involved in major wars until 1914.Cloptonson (talk) 11:40, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- The Russian Wikipedia article states that he received a 2nd degree Iron Cross (Железный крест 2-го класса) from the Kingdom of Prussia (Королевство Пруссия) and references the following book:
- title = Handbuch über den Königlich Preußischen Hof und Staat
- year = 1918

- Judging by its looks and the way it's worn, it appears to be the Iron Cross of 2nd class that was awarded to combatants of the First World War.

"20 March 1889 at Kiel – 2 May 1945 at Tutzing, Bavaria"
[edit]Shouldn't it be "in Kiel" and "in Tutzing"? The German wiki article says "in Kiel/Tutzing", not "at". But I'm not a native English speaker and therefore not sure, if "at" would also work here. Nakonana (talk) 19:16, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
The article doesn't mention why he needed blood transfusions
[edit]"He died in a clinic in Tutzing, Bavaria because of a lack of blood transfusion facilities. He and his wife fled their home in light of the Russian advance, arriving in Tutzing, where Waldemar was able to receive his last blood transfusion."
Was the hemophilia itself the reason why he needed (regular) blood transfusions? Or was he injured at some point in battle or during the flight? Nakonana (talk) 19:28, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Good question. I wondered the same thing. This article is very short. One thing I've always wondered about was his lack of children. Was that intentional because he didn't want to pass on hemophilia or were he and his wife unable to have children? 2600:1700:BC01:9B0:898C:DDA:9A03:ED71 (talk) 23:52, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
