Renaud SéchanRenaud — Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC: This multi-million selling French singer-songwriter is by far the top result on a Google search on "Renaud". For consistency: His (FA-class) article on the French WP is simply entitled Renaud. Same proposal was already put forward in March 2009 here by another editor, but nobody took notice. – IbLeo(talk) 15:09, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment I don't see why we should be consistent with the French Wikipedia in titling articles, this is the English Wikipedia, and should use English use not French. 76.66.192.49 (talk) 06:50, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So what, in your opinion, would be the primary topic for "Renaud"? – IbLeo(talk) 07:35, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. No real opinion here and I'm not really familiar with the subject, just chiming in with my 2¢. Is it fair to say that Renaud Séchan is better known in French-speaking countries than in English-speaking countries? Also, while his article is FA-Class on the French Wikipedia, it's only Start-Class here. Like the IP above, I don't see any need for us to be consistant with the French Wikipedia. I've just done a quick Google search myself, and on the first page only the first few hits (which include this article and the dab page) are for Renaud Séchan, while the rest appear to be for other individuals. It's not like this guy is Shakespeare, and I'm not convinced that there needs to be a primary topic for Renaud. PC78 (talk) 19:09, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, he is far more known in French speaking countries and territories (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Quebec, etc.) than in the English speaking world; but let's say an English speaking person visits France, hears a Renaud song on the radio, likes it so much that he decides to buy a CD. He then gets back home, wants to know more about this singer, and goes to WP. Very few people here in France know that his family name is Séchan, so our friend in this scenario certainly won't know it either (the CD cover only says Renaud), and might not find what he is looking for. – IbLeo(talk) 21:11, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Tentative support then. If he is known professionally as just Renaud then I guess that's fair enough per the Morrissey example given below, since the only other item on the dab page that is just Renaud is a redlinked Québécois settlement. PC78 (talk) 23:15, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Personally I find it rather odd that Renaud is referenced under Renaud Séchan when he is so ubiquitously known as simply Renaud. It's not a matter of consistency with French Wikipedia just a matter of common usage and parlance - Renaud's records are always as Renaud after all. So calling him Renaud Séchan is about as odd as calling Morrissey "Steven Morrissey" - technically correct but misleading and looks rather ignorant.Malikbek (talk) 20:34, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
so just in case it isn't clear from the above I would favour the suggested reorganisation.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Malikbek (talkcontribs) 20:45, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
