Shortest living twins?[edit]

"Until the death of John Rice on November 5, 2005, the two held the world record for being the shortest living twins, standing only 2 ft 10 in (86 cm)."

No indication of when they acquired the record. But however long they held it for, I have trouble believing it at all. Twin births aren't that rare, and the average length of a newborn baby was 20 inches when I went to school. Presumably the average length of a newborn twin is a little less than this. I don't know at what age the average child exceeds this height, but there's no way that all other twins alive in that space of time were born bigger than that.

If something else was meant (e.g. shortest twins above a certain age, or shortest twins capable of standing upright) then this needs to be specified.

Moreover, is the record of "shortest twins" determined by the height of the shorter one, the taller one, the mean or what? — Smjg (talk) 21:37, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will flip through my GWR books but I am pretty sure it is also backed by Guinness. I am also sure also that there are shorter twins that existed, however nothing can be done without the reliable sources. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 16:45, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the info in GWR is dubious. In the 2012 edition, "Shortest siblings", "Bridgette and Brad Jordan (both USA) are 71.1 cm (28 in) and 96.5 cm (38 in) tall respectively." Again, there's no way these can be the shortest siblings across the entire human species. I can only guess that they sometimes write "shortest X" when they really mean "shortest X aged Y or above" or some such, in which case we need to find out the value of Y, and in any case stop the bogus statements on WP regardless of from where the bogosity comes. — Smjg (talk) 19:17, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The info from guiness has been verified by experts though, yes there might be shorter of people but unless it is verified ot is useless as a baseless claim. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 18:05, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
