COI tag (July 2023)

[edit]

Article creator is the son of Richard Francis Theroadislong (talk) 17:50, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tag removed after my extensive reworking and expansion of the article. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:47, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Mormoironier, hello. I added an image to the article (and let me know if got it wrong, the source didn't have any biographical details), this is allowed per WP-rules (WP:NFCI) since Sir Richard in no longer with us, but in general, WP:s rules on copyright are very (very) strict.

In short, in WP-land you can "donate" pictures you have taken yourself and so can other people. So if you have such a picture you think would be better for this article, you can upload it with the process that starts here. That is a link to Commons, a sister-site where we keep the "free" images. If you know someone else who has taken such a picture you can encourage them to register and upload it with the same process. And if you think the current pic is good enough (I thought it was better than [1]), don't bother.

Hope this helps! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:45, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Gråbergs Gråa Sång Mormoironier uploaded a new image, which I've swapped out for yours. I'll create a proper infobox later as I continue to work on the article. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:30, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That settles that. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:40, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, this is a private photo and was taken at my graduation at Oxford in 1984. What other bio details would you need?
Thanks Steve Mormoironier (talk) 12:45, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An infobox just summarises what is in the main article, so there's no need for you to provide more than you have already done. See David Coleman for an example of how one typically looks. Infoboxes are well structured to be machine-readable so they help search engines index articles correctly. In some types of article (e.g. chemistry, which I often edit), the infobox includes cross-references and all sorts of "boring" information: see aspirin. Director-General British Council

The summary should include this, his last, role from 1986 to 1992. It is sourced already. Mormoironier (talk) 22:19, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Added to Infobox. It was already in the WP:LEAD. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:37, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
