The result of the move request was: consensus to move the page, per the discussion below. I have created a new redirect from Barrier effect (ecology) as well. Dekimasuよ! 17:55, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Barrier effect → Road barrier effect – While a GSearch for '"barrier effect" ecology' mostly brought back appropriate hits, there were enough others to make me think we should qualify the title. Varnished user (talk) 15:26, 28 February 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. Dekimasuよ! 21:24, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

this new article was dropped into this empty title slot today blocking search box access for "barrier effect" to a dozen other subjects in article content (and books) such as barrier effect (plastics), Barrier effect (food technology) etc. etc.Since there are a dozen options here the new article creation should be moved to WP:CRITERIA appropriate title and [barrier effect] needs ideally to be converted to a dab page with all the WP:DABMENTIONs to other uses. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:54, 28 February 2018 (UTC)- So, Barrier effect (ecology)? Or Barrier effect (roads)? I could go with either. --Varnished user (talk) 22:28, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Probably the latter, and the former a redirect to the latter. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:25, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Despite some questionable hatnotes being placed on this article that use questionable redirects for only minor usages on the target articles, the dominant and clear use of this phrase is with regards to ecology as covered in this topic. No other real article we have has any better current claim to this title. Hell, its so new there aren't even any incoming article links. Lets give it time to develop. On a side note, this also feels very BITEy as the contributor of this article has just joined us as part of Wiki Ed. -- Netoholic @ 05:31, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Netoholic: I apologise for the biteyness, didn't realise it was a new editor, and should have done from the template above. But still don't think roads is the only topic in books books. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:36, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support. As In ictu oculi pointed out, "barrier effect" is too vague, and a casual search shows a variety of "barrier effect"s across multiple branches of science. We're a general-purpose encyclopedia and we should seek to provide context-insensitive naming wherever possible. Even the papers specialized such as [1] on the subject use "road barrier effect". Even that title is not sufficiently specific, because a lot research on "road barrier effect" [2] concerns roads as a barrier to pedestrians and cyclists, not just animals. No such user (talk) 16:41, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- Those other uses seem to be simple vocabulary ("barrier effect" in those contexts meaning simply "having the effect of a barrier") which is likely why there was never any article created for the phrase. In the ecology sense, we have at least a clear and notable concept which was enough to start an article. Also, as pointed out above, the ecological barrier effect is not limited to just roads, so the proposed name is instantly incorrect. -- Netoholic @ 05:13, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- It's hard to discern where the simple vocabulary ends and where an idiom begins. I would gladly change my opinion if a significant percentage of hits referred to the ecological phenomenon, but I'd guesstimate it to be under 10% of total hits at scholar [3]. A (slim) majority uses of "barrier effect" on scholar seems to be related to quantum tunnelling. No such user (talk) 15:42, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- I think we have to go with what we have right now. Obviously, this article can be moved in the future if there are other "barrier effect" concepts that are made into articles, but for right now we only have one. We can leave this for now, and start a barrier effect (disambiguation) page, and perhaps something there will grow into an article, then we can re-discuss which if any is primary then. I really think this RM is putting the cart before the horse. -- Netoholic @ 10:34, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- But we have all these articles mentioning barrier effects right now. We have Quantum tunnelling right now. We don't have to WP:FORK barrier effect from other articles out just because this one has been created. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:28, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- Support, the current is imprecise, there are a large number of topics with "barrier effect"s. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 04:10, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
