Grass mistake?
[edit]> The airport was built in 1940 with two grass-surfaced runways.
I have my sincere doubts whether an airfield located exactly on the artic circle can have grass-covered strips per se. Maybe moss or lichen, but not grass, that would just freeze out. 87.97.99.78 (talk) 17:57, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- This information about 2 grass-surfaced runways in 1940 can be found on Finavia's website. The word used is "nurmipäällysteinen" which means grass-surfaced. Another source is a document from Regional State Administrative Agency (Avi), which also describes the history of the Rovaniemi Airport.

- Also, I'm not sure why freezing out would be a particular problem? Obviously they always have to deal with ice and snow at Finnish airports in the wintertime. 2001:999:80:5F36:B183:8689:25F5:954C (talk) 06:07, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
- Finavia's website in English also has the information. "1940: Two grass landing strips are completed."
