Sam Champion
[edit]He is gay and out: here's a reference from the New York Daily News: [1]
Let's not be depriving young gay people of positive gay role models, okay? Stop deleting the reference that he's gay. It's important. I'm not trolling.
- But how reliable is a gossip column? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.200.177.10 (talk) 17:09, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Why don't we have a section on his eye color, or whether he's right-handed or left-handed? It's about as important or relevant as his sexual orientation is in this century... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.66.233.164 (talk) 14:08, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Gay Designation
[edit]Isn't he then the only openly gay staffer of any morning news program? presumably? 72.43.213.236 19:38, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just was thinking the same thing. He's lucky he's got a good face, blonde hair, and he's a kick-ass weatherman, or they'd have him outta there. Welcome to George Bush's America. Also, is there a category like "Openly Gay Celebrities" we could add him to? KenFehling 16:37, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
- my, aren't you persecuted. he's been around way longer than bush —Preceding unsigned comment added by Petchboo (talk • contribs) 16:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Source of Sam being openly gay
[edit]I have looked at the NY Daily News source provided in the article. The quote that allegedly says that he is gay is: "Weatherman Sam Champion and other gay power players turned out for the Empire State Pride Agenda dinner the other night." There is nothing that says that he openly admitted that he is gay, and to me,. the quote doesn't imply such. As such, I will remove the comment of him being openly gay, but I will add that he has supported the LGBT community.
Although I do find that he has effeminate mannerisms, you need to find a reliable source that says Champion has come out of the closet (and that would be publicized openly if that's the case). Otherwise, we don't want Wikipedia to be a source of potentially sladerous and inaccurate information—see what happened with John Seigenthaler, Sr.. Tinlinkin 07:46, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, his mannerisms do make you wonder...WAVY 10 14:08, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
It looks like there's a lot of rumor on here rather than sourced fact. I'll remove the rumor until sourced. Matt Sanchez (talk) 01:13, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Companion
[edit]On the "Andy's Blog" at Bravotv.com, written by Bravo vice president Andrew Cohen, it is stated that Champion's boyfriend owns a fashion boutique that recently opened in the Hamptons (http://www.bravotv.com/blog/andysblog/2008/05/hamptons_weekend.php?page=2); its opening party was held on 25 May 2008, with hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. Newsday (http://weblogs.newsday.com/entertainment/localguide/outeast/blog/2008/05/kelly_ripa_and_mark_conseulos.html) states that the store being opened that day and hosted by Ripa-Consuelos is Bellhaus in Wainscott (http://www.bellhaus.com). The local newspaper Dan's Hamptons (http://www.danshamptons.com/content/danspapers/issue09_2008/37.html) published an interview with the store's owner, Shawn Bell. A photograph of Bell at the store opening, flanked by Consuelos and Ripa, is posted here: http://micahjesseblog.wordpress.com/2008/05/26/memorial-day-weekend-madness-friday-edition/. Is this enough verifiable linkage to state that Shawn Bell is Champion's companion?Kitchawan (talk) 21:27, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Of course it's enough, but good luck making any mention of "gay" in this article. We don't even need to say he is gay, just that it's been "widely suggested" and provide the links in this talk page, plus a bunch more on a recent Google search. Green Cardamom (talk) 17:35, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
