April 9, 1851 Founding
[edit]I can find a 100 references that say 1851, but none that say "April 9" as the date. Does anyone have a reference for this? > Best O Fortuna (talk) 19:06, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
- See the following five references:
- Three dates in the spring of 1851 are given:
- Costilla County gives Saturday, April 5, 1851, as the date of establishment. This may be the date of the first construction of the villages.
- Sangres.com gives Wednesday, April 9, 1851, as the official date of establishment. This may be the date of some sort of proclamation when the first homes became habitable.
- FortuneCity.com gives Saturday, June 21, 1851 as the date of dedication. This is said to be the Fiesta de San Luis, the patron saint of the community.
- I see April 9, 1851, cited most commonly as the date of establishment, but there was obvious activity in the area both before and after this date. Yours aye, Buaidh (talk) 18:33, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
