Neutrality
[edit]This article was heavily edited before the election by four student editors. The tone of some edits appear less than neutral. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:44, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677 - Thank you for the feedback. I'm the instructor for this course. If you wouldn't mind sharing with me a specific passage that appears "less than neutral" -- I would appreciate that. I'm working on giving feedback to my students. SarahReckhow (talk) 17:30, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
User:SarahReckhow - Some of the gushingly positive additions include:
- Broome is running as a democrat with a focus around equality in issues like education, the economy, and housing
- Another focal point of her campaign is unity within the community of Baton Rouge.
- When she married Marvin Broome, she stepped up as the mother to his three children who lost their biological mother to cancer
- She is a dedicated member of her community and her church
- Her vision for the future reinforced community safety, quality of life, equitable business opportunities, sustainable environment and infrastructure, and opportunities for all to thrive.
- Broome oversaw major progress in the MOVEBR program
- Her administration emphasized equity through a "fair-share" program to support disadvantaged business enterprises.
- Broome championed a 2021 proposal for Housing for Heroes
- Through her role as president, Broome strives to address tough issues like poor housing, and underserved community difficulties by bringing communities together to push for change.
- Hearing the story of Emmett Till unfold, sparked an interest in civil justice at a very young age for her.
- One of her main focuses was maintaining a united parish where everyone is represented, including low-income residents and college students.
And you assigned four students to heavily edit this biography with nothing but supportive edits...a week before the election!

- Thanks very much. I will work on these with the students. Just to clarify-- this was an assignment that has been ongoing in terms of the research. It was entirely coincidental that the timing when our semester ends is at the same time as the election. SarahReckhow (talk) 19:39, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SarahReckhow: And a Democrat in a tight election too. The optics stink. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:45, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
Not a good article - as there is lots of praise, with hardly any criticism, a reader would have no idea why this person just lost the election.
[edit]It is well known that Wikipedia has a bit of a leftist slant - but there is a difference between having a leftist slant and producing articles that are so biased that they verge on parody. As there is no real criticism in the article, just praise for Sharon Weston Broome, a reader would have no idea why most people just voted against this Mayor. There has always been a difference between the world as the education system and media present it, and the world that ordinary people experience in their daily lives - but when that the difference becomes too large, then people start to reject what the the education system and media, including Wikipedia, present. 90.212.143.38 (talk) 11:34, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
