Speed

[edit]

Shazam works in less than 1 second sometimes, nowadays. 10 seconds is out of date.

How it works

[edit]

Does anyone know how the application works? 120.17.171.156 (talk) 07:34, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's a video explaining it at http://www.parleys.com/#st=5&id=2869&sl=53, see also the blog post at http://www.redcode.nl/blog/2010/06/creating-shazam-in-java/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kiwibird (talkcontribs) 07:04, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No DSi app

[edit]

Just noting that I've taken the unsigned HTML comment "I asked Shazam Customer Service about the DSi app and there is no such implementation of the service, nor will there ever be." out of the article and put it here. --McGeddon (talk) 09:45, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Funding

[edit]

Putting source here for safe-keeping.

I found about it with shazam but i can't find much details about it. i wish you could probably show us your sources as well, in cases of such unpopular items. otherwise am enjoying the app since i started using it a few months ago.

Grandfathered "Unlimited Tagging" accounts

[edit]

It looks like back in September 3000 FunkyCanute did cleanup on the article, and removed (unintentionally?) a statement that some "early adopters" of the free software are still, to this day, allowed unlimited tagging. The "grandfathered" status is tied to your mobile device's IMEI [1]. A post further down from Shazam Support indicates you can take the "unlimited" feature with you when you upgrade to a new Android device [2]. I put the information back in as I think this could be helpful to users who originally used Shazam with unlimited tagging, are wondering why they no longer have the unlimited feature on their new device, and want to get it back.

Shazam page - please update

[edit]

There have been a number of changes at Shazam that need to be reflected on the Wikipedia page:

1) The new company CEO is urko lasagabaster , with Andrew Fisher moving to Executive Chairman (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/d07809fa-b0f0-11e2-9f24-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2RwBm00fV) 2) Other key execs are: Daniel Danker, Chief Product Officer; Doug Garland, Chief Revenue Officer; Jason Titus, Chief Technology Officer; and Avery Wang, Chief Scientist (http://www.shazam.com/music/web/team.html) 3) Shazam has been recognized with numerous industry awards, including the Queens Award for Enterprise (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/9217572/Queens-award-honours-best-of-British-technology.html) 4) Shazam officially expanded its service into television in 2011 with the launch of the Old Navy campaign (http://lostremote.com/old-navy-teams-with-shazam-for-social-commercials_b15781), and continued to develop the service, making programs and advertisements "Shazam-enabled" so that people can use the app for second screen engagement, available in the US, UK, Europe and APAC: http://www.campaignbrief.com/2013/03/shazams-second-screen-engageme.html http://www.fastcompany.com/3008950/shazam-hires-former-yahoo-evp-as-ceo-to-push-into-second-screen-future http://lostremote.com/you-can-now-shazam-any-tv-show-in-the-u-s_b33901

If you could make those changes, that would be most appreciated! Rica Squires, Shazam RGSquires (talk) 10:08, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I may be able to look at this. Of course, any updates for the above need to maintain the encylopedic tone and objectivity of Wikipedia. Cheers.--Soulparadox (talk) 10:44, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That would be great - thank you - RGSquires (talk) 14:49, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have identified Rich Riley as the new CEO and Andrew Fisher moving to Executive Chairman. Avery Wang is already mentioned as Chief Scientist. The TV tagging capability is also already mentioned. I will have a look for notable industry awards. In general, the article needs a bit of editing. FunkyCanute (talk) 15:41, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Target zone graph

[edit]

The included "target zone" graph should be explained in the article — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.20.205.134 (talk) 12:18, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rich Riley standalone page

[edit]

I think Shazam's CEO Rich Riley should have his own standalone page, rather than be redirected to Shazam. Almost all of his peers have their own pages (and so many people less notable), he seems to have had a page for many years before a few users/sockpuppets biasedly edited his page, and he meets the notability standards for the following reasons: He is CEO of an app downloaded over a billion times (one of the most popular apps ever), he previously started and sold his own company, he has been featured on prestigious CEO lists (Forbes, Billboard, et al.), and he is a producer of a successful network TV show (Beat Shazam) with its own page (he also has an IMDb page). He is known for much more than one thing. As someone who previously used his page for research purposes, I think it is only fair to restore it back to its previous standalone status, and to the version before it was compromised by a Wiki sockpuppet. To me, this is simply the foundation Wikipedia is built on. Thank you. Craiggers8301 (talk) 20:45, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The issue was notability. It went to a vote and that was what was decided by consensus. I'm not aware of any sockpuppets but I do remember it having a conflict of interest issue/promotional issue from single purpose accounts. I can't understand your rationale that you used it for research purposes therefore it is fair to restore it. Also personal feelings about what wikipedia should be to an individual cannot override policy. Rayman60 (talk) 21:01, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

hang up time

[edit]

In the article it is written that "The phone would automatically hang up after 30 seconds." But in this Video by Wired they say that it's just 15 sec: https://youtube.com/watch?v=b6xeOLjeKs0

Originally it was probably 30 seconds and later they changed it to 15 seconds. I think we should research a bit more about that and add this information. Daniel Maak (talk) 09:36, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Updating data addition

[edit]

@Smuckola: There is nothing wrong with this comment whatsoever, given citation needed note is there, later adding archived citation. And as for your that "there is no possibility for this being notable or ever reliably cited" – how would you possible know...WP:CRYSTAL much? Jimthing (talk) 20:31, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:SHAZAM (software) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 18:35, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
