Another, earlier board game called Shogun?

[edit]

Probably from 1970s or very early 1980s. It was a checkers style game with a plastic board with red and white square plastic pieces. The pieces displayed a number depending on where they moved, probably controlled by magnets.

Here's a photo of the game I remember: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jondresner/3502560230/

I think I know which one you mean; I think it was also from Milton Bradley. I remember seeing a TV commercial for it when I was in the latter grades of elementary school, so it was around 1975 or 1976. The commercial opened on a samurai in full battle armor. While a narrator spoke, a hand reached into the shot from off-camera, offering him other board games, which the samuari swatted away, scattering the boards and pieces. Then he was offered "Shogun". I do not recall that this game had pieces as the 1986 game is said to have had. But I've only got a fuzzy memory to go by. I've searched for this game on eBay, and I've looked for any video online of that commercial, but I haven't found anything yet.
