Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... the history of Smithfield Plantation (in fredericksburg virginia) is virtually unknown in the local community, let alone the broader historical community. I have no idea why information about a historically significant place that has no comprehensive information available on the web would be a candidate for speedy deletion! I am planning to link this article into other related articles on wikipedia and other web sources in the near future.

Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... there is virtually no mention of Smithfield on the web despite the historical significance and even in the local community the history is not well known. I don't understand how adding information about a place of historic significance which had virtually no online information available qualifies for speedy deletion!! Very frustrating to have Wikipedia claim that they want more contributions yet seem to throw roadblocks up for what seem to be completely arbitrary reasons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nw3z (talk • contribs) 23:19, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This should be salvageable but is currently a bit of a mess. Check articles on other historic houses (Historic houses in Virginia links to several examples). Rmhermen (talk) 01:10, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The article asserts significance and can't be deleted for that reason. I am, however, extremely nervous about the fact that it's summarised from a single source, which tends to result in copyright violations. Please read Wikipedia:Copy-paste and make sure that it's not a problem. Copyright infringment will get deleted where found, with no opportunity for discussion. Wily D 08:45, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
