It would appear that there are some sources which confuse rational and instrumental actions, so be careful. Some citations (I don't have any atm) would be useful here.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 22:22, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion on value rationality

[edit]

Following up on Piotr's comments: I think the current state of the article reflects confusion about the distinction between instrumental and value rational action. In short-- it seems like aspects of both the 'rational action' and instrumental action sections refer to aspects of instrumental action. The term 'value rational' can be thought of action made according to principle, rather than action made to instrumentally attain some end. Thus a person might go out of their way to return a library book that they found on the street purely because doing so is consistent with their values. It would likely be helpful to read Weber's 1968 discussion of value rational again. --Htw3 04:40, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Instrumental action?

[edit]

There's something weird in this section. Someone needs to clean it up.Der Zeitgeist (talk) 16:13, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but the recent edits by Nurefsan made it much much worse.
The larger section now reads that Weber proposed 8 types of action (although the text explicitly relates some of them to other authors, and it is of course completely ridiculous to consider a section called "Notes" as a type of action so labelled by Weber). However, in other edits where I encountered Nurefsan it is clear this user is always right and discussion is not possible.
I asked for a source attributing the 8 actions to Weber, if that is not provided within a very short time (24 hrs), I will revert to the old version (imperfect as it is), untill the source is provided. Arnoutf (talk) 19:29, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page name should be 'social action' not 'social actions'

[edit]

Yep. That's about it, really. --Tomsega (talk) 12:34, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
