Karlo-Marksove โ†’ Sofiivka, Horlivka Raion, Donetsk Oblast โ€“ There is basically no coverage of this settlement in English-language sources. There isn't a WP:COMMONNAME that justifies keeping an old name that was repealed seven years ago. The single article I found [1] uses the new name. To my knowledge, the only sources you can find anywhere on the internet in English that call it "Karlo-Marksove" are old encyclopedias made long before the name change.

The official name of the settlement is Sofiivka, and in the absence of a common name, Wikipedia goes with that per WP:UAPLACE, using the Ukrainian national transliteration system. See similar precedents at Talk:Khrustalnyi and Talk:Bunhe. HappyWith (talk) 23:03, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I object applying UAPLACE to localities which have never held by Ukraine after they have been renamed. You can only rename something you control, otherwise the rename is just on paper and does not affect the locality in any way. Ymblanter (talk) 08:44, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There was consensus that suggests it should apply at the discussions linked in the nom, using the exact same logic as this proposal. Why would it not apply here? HappyWith (talk) 17:16, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support. WP:WIAN suggests references including the NGIA GNS search,[2] which gives name Sofiivka, variant names Karla Marksa, Karl Marks, Karlo-Marksove, Karlo-Marksovo, and Rudnik Imeni Karla Marksa. and it suggests digital or paper maps: Google Maps gives Sofiivka,[3] and Apple Maps gives Sofiivka.[4] UAPLACE also gives Sofiivka, consistent with the superior guideline and recommended sources (so the objection to referring to it is moot).ย โ€”Michaelย Z. 19:54, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
