Spelling

[edit]

I think the title for this page should be "Stocktake", the noun, not "Stocktaking", the verb.

  • An interesting question is how you spell this word. Many dictionaries for some reason have it under STOCKTAKING (unusual for a word to be under the ING version). Some have it under STOCKTAKE. STOCK-TAKE is a common variation. And plenty of people think it's 2 words without hyphenation. The lack of STOCKTAKE in many dictionaries might imply that it's 2 words. I think I would lean towards it being one word because (a) It's in frequent usage as such and (b) the meaning of Stocktake doesn't really have anything to do with taking stock in the literal sense of "take". But a counter argument might be that "taking stock" is in itself a common idiom.
  • Wordwebonline.com reckons stocktake is the noun and stock-take is the verb. Sounds questionable to me.

Difference to Physical inventory

[edit]

Can this be merged with Physical inventory or is there a difference between physical inventory and stock tacking? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.81.223.66 (talk) 08:37, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

@Joannes Vermorel @CorporateM @Ani Kuriakose @Ian Glossop @User:Pippin Bear @User:Snow Rise @User:TDJankins I propose to merge stock-taking to inventory control. Lbertolotti (talk) 00:17, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think that they are sufficiently separate terminology. Stock-taking is periodic while inventory control is ongoing. The intro sentence on the inventory control page is a little misleading. It should be replaced with some of the information from lower on the page.--TDJankins (talk) 08:13, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Cutoff Procedure Forms

[edit]

Does anyone find the cutoff procedure forms helpful or believe they are appropriate to this article? They appear to relate to goods receipt and dispatch, not to the exercise of checking what inventory is being held at a point in time. I suggest they could be deleted. - BobKilcoyne (talk) 05:53, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. This is an encyclopedia, forms like this don't belong in it. Ollieinc (talk) 10:28, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
