The Official Station Name

Following nationalisation in 1948, the station was known as Stockport Edgeley, to differentiate it from Stockport Tiviot Dale, which closed in 1967. This is correct, please revert to this.

I have in front of me the very last LMS timetable - for October 6th 1947 until further notice. Edgeley station (the name by which my relations, who lived in Edgeley then and now, always knew this station) was called simply Stockport in the timetables and on the platform signs. The LMS whose station it was (and it was the only operator) never called it anything else. Tiviot Dale station was owned by the Cheshire Lines Committee, which was operated on behalf of its owning companies by the LNER in whose timetables that station appeared. Tiviot Dale was not mentioned in the LMS timetables.

The name Stockport Edgeley only came into official use after Nationalisation and the station name reverted to Stockport sometime after Tiviot Dale closed.
