The title seems incorrect but that can be fixed in mainspace. Topic is valid Legacypac (talk) 14:29, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merge/redirect

[edit]

So, this AfC has nothing more than what the "other systems" section of the season article. Should we merge it, or just redirect because there's nothing to merge? Nova Crystallis (Talk) 18:11, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merge anything that is in this article that isn't in the section. It's a meteorological oddity, sure, but not enough content to support its own article. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:09, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ya I did not know who to ask about this so I sent it to mainspace where the tagging would bring a knowledgable editor to it. If you feel redirection is best great. Legacypac (talk) 21:26, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Im not a fan of including it or Katie in Wikipedia full stop personally, since we don't monitor the normal subtropical storms of the South Pacific Ocean to the west of 120W.Jason Rees (talk) 20:25, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As long as we have some evidence of confirmation by a RS that it was a tropical/subtropical cyclone, it belongs on Wikipedia. Where? That can be debated, but I see no grounds for exclusion from the mainspace. YE Pacific Hurricane 21:44, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Why does it though? After all the normal subtropical storms that form in the South Pacific are not added in since they are not numbered or considered a part of the season AFAIK. Yes you can argue that it's notable because it formed outside of the SPAC basin, but it wasn't called a subtropical cyclone by any of the WMO backed warning centres not even Chille or Peru who have the marine warning responsability down there.Jason Rees (talk) 09:08, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If the merge happens,which article will disapear?i want this article as a independent page,such Katia --Olo72 (talk) 10:12, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If the merger happens the way I would personally like it to happen then neither system will be mentioned on Wiki unless someone can prove that they were tropical. However, it seems likely that this page would be redirected to 2017-18 South Pacific cyclone season.Jason Rees (talk) 13:53, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Merger - The topic is notable enough to have a separate article (not to mention being the only tropical/subtropical cyclone ever recorded near Chile). I also plan to expand the article and revise the prose within a couple of months (when I have more free time). LightandDark2000 (talk) 08:03, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I dont agree that it is notable for an article for several reasons. The official warning centres for the region (Peru/Chilie) did not classify it as a subtropical cyclone, its only the media and NOAA's SAB that has classified it as one which is enough for a mention in the other systems of SPAC. However, we do not include any of the other subtropical cyclones that occur in the South Pacific as they are normally not classified as XXF, named or numbered. I also wonder how much information is available without us resorting to making up records that may well be valid but are based on our interpretation of the various databases. As a result, I seriously wonder if it really is worth including in Wikipedia, when I presume it only caused a minimal amount of damage to Chile if at all.Jason Rees (talk) 16:03, 20 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merge 3 system : TD 1983, Katie and Lexi to new page "SouthEast Pacific tropical cyclone" ? Huy Trương Salvatore - Talk 09:55, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a good idea but i've got a few problems that will stop that from happening. 1. Its not very common for subtropical cyclones in the Southeast Pacific like once every decade. 2. Since its rare, they don't really no if its a subtropical cyclone or not, so they haven't really got a lot of recorded information so its not a lot of information to be in article. Northatlantic320 (talk) 18:39, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No because if they were tropical cyclones then they would be included in the relevant South Pacific cyclone seasons, however, I do nto see why that should extend to subtropical cyclones since they are not included in season totals and the warning centres for the region (BOM, MetService and FMS) do monitor subtropical cyclones AFAIK. However, they do not count them towards the cyclone season totals, give them specific advisories or give them more credit then they are worth.Jason Rees (talk) 19:37, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What you have just talked about on this page Jason Rees has nothing to do about what I talked about on Subtropical Cyclone Katie Talk Page. Northatlantic320 (talk) 20:00, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have clarified what I meant more, but basically it was solely up to me then neither Katie or Lexi would be mentioned on Wikipedia.Jason Rees (talk) 20:41, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

At least talk about something relevant and not something completely different Northatlantic320 (talk) 20:46, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am against the proposed article for the reasons, I have mentioned.Jason Rees (talk) 20:49, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't even going to create an article. I was saying to Final-Fintasy-HH If he created the article there would be some problems if creating it. And if you've got problems about it discuss it on my talk page. Northatlantic320 (talk

1) I was also responding to @Final-Fantasy-HH: and expressing my view on the article 2) It is better to talk about the article and form a consensus here or on the project page rather than your talk page.Jason Rees (talk) 21:30, 9 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

We could maybe at least at more information to the article then Jason Rees. Northatlantic320 (talk) 08:16, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
