please remove "indie rock" from the genres. because indie rock is a very broad genre, the band only covers a small part of the indie rock category. therefore, the band should not be named as indie rock. Timbobpoop (talk) 11:32, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Most genres are per definition 'broad'; the band is signed to an indie label Dirty Hit and play rock music. Hence, indie rock. Karst (talk) 12:46, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

John Waugh

While saxophonist John Waugh might be introduced on stage as a member of the band, he is essentially a gun-for-hire for this tour and should not be listed as a permanent member of The 1975. Additionally he describes himself as a 'side-man' on his own page, here. Please refrain from adding him to the list of members. Karst (talk) 13:34, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Grammar

First sentence reads, "The 1975 is an English indie rock band formed in Manchester", but should read, "The 1975 are an English indie rock band formed in Manchester". Furthermore, sections of the whole article possibly should be corrected according to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_American_and_British_English#Formal_and_notional_agreement

Pop rock

Hi, thank you for your suggestion. For now, it is the consensus that Alternative Rock be the primary genre because of its broad definition. How come they're not defined by "pop rock", while the band is described as such by a variety of sources (including but no limited to [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]). These overweight the rather miniscule amount of sources on the article that call them alternative, if you ask me. Myxomatosis' amount of sources alone should justify putting it there. That being said, the strongest of these references should be added next to pop rock in the style section (I suggest only as many as two or three more to avoid overcitation). George's role in members section

Origin

Hi all,

while I acknowledge that the band members grew up in Wilmslow, they are more heavily associated with being a Manchester band. Should the origin be Manchester, or Wilmslow? HiddenHerobrine (talk) 22:18, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

for all intents and purposes beyond local governance boundaries, Wilmslow acts as a suburb of Manchester. Wikipedia (users) has(/have) some bizarre obsession with UK local government boundaries being used instead of common parlance for places, see the strange opening to the Manchester article.
