Date of move[edit]

Why February 20 in particular? Probably convenience. I doubt you'll find a reliable source about why that's the date they chose. As for if it's modeled after someone, I'm guessing it's not modeled after anyone in particular, but again, it needs a source. SchuminWeb (Talk) 01:38, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New coordinates?[edit]

Just looked at my geocoded photos taken of the sculpture over the weekend and confirmed the current coords are correct for the current location of the statue. This can also be confirmed via Google Maps, though the sat imagery is quite out of date, showing the construction site and unimproved coastline of the now-completed development. 72.5.150.149 (talk) 15:47, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How big is it, really?[edit]

In other reading about this sculpture, I notice that there are conflicting statements about the size. (This article describes it as 100 feet. Another as 50 feet.) That top photo[edit]

I think that top photo is phony. I think it's a doctored photo. I've been to the old site. This seems wrong and it looks doctored. BradyDale (talk) 16:57, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't look as though it's doctored at first glance, but let's discuss. What elements of the photo make it appear doctored? Compare to one of the same part of the sculpture that I took at the old location in 2003: [1]. That photo of mine is definitely not doctored, but it is at a slightly different angle. If the photo is actually inaccurate, then it needs to go, but if it's fine, I see no reason not to keep it around. Your thoughts? SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:06, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SchuminWeb,I guess it's just such a small photo and I don't remember the area past it being so empty and clear. If I were at home I could look at some of my own old photos. They are all pre digital. BradyDale (talk) 19:22, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is or has been in Italy--copy?[edit]

OK, I have found out that Seward Johnson's "The Awakening" is or has been installed in at least three places in Italy, where it's called "Il Risveglio." These places were: the Piazza Marconi in the Eur quarter of Rome; something called Valle Faul in Viterbo, and the Piazza Duomo on the Island of Ortigia in Siracusa. I'm pretty sure that at least the Eur one was a temporary installation, which suggests that it was one, traveling. I can't seem to find out if the others were all temporary, or if one of them is permanent. And if all of the installations were temporary, I wonder if it was the one that was on Hains Point and now in National Harbor, on loan (which seems very unlikely), or if it was the one that is now in Missouri, or if it is yet another copy. Much as I'd love to, I don't think we can do that "See Also"[edit]

Charlie Rrose Selavy, much as it pains me, I don't think we can keep that "See Also" that you just added. See my comment above, dating from 2014. I'd LOVE to see this article address the "The Awakening" (Il Risveglio) in Italy. Something like it has also been in the Eur neighborhood of Rome, and in Viterbo. I now think that they're one and the same, and it was installed temporarily in those locations before coming to Siracusa. I've found pictures and references on line, but nothing I think I can use to add the information myself.
But I don't think we can address it as a "See Also"--essentially inviting people to "see also" an article that doesn't exist. Perhaps it could be an "External Link," if it is crafted a bit better.
One more note: It is not at "Place Cathedral" (the cathedral of a city called Place? the Diocese of Place? Saint Place?? never heard of that one--and I'm a Catholic!). You translated (or had a computer translate) "Piazza Duomo" so painfully literally that the very meaning got lost. Yes, I suppose "piazza" is cognate with "place," but it refers to a city square. Duomo is a cathedral, yes. So it's Cathedral Square--the city square in front of the Duomo Siracusa--the Cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of Syracuse (Italy, not New York). Actually, it seems I had things kind of backwards. Now, I find that this copy in Italy was installed first at Cathedral Square in Siracusa, in April 2009. In December 2009, it was moved to Rome, and set up in Marconi Plaza in EUR, Rome. Then in May 2011, it was moved to Viterbo, to a location called Valle di Faul, where it is now. When I wrote the first post in this topic, I attempted to ping a User, whose edit I was discussing. I've just now discovered that through a coding/punctuation error (square brackets where I should have used curly braces), what I actually accomplished was to provide an enigmatic link to the Wikipedia article on the letter U. Top picture[edit]
