I'm fairly sure the band are not from Brighton. The song "Latchmere" is about days at a swimming pool in Lambeth or Battersea (I can't remember which) which was near where they lived. TG312274 17:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]- I agree. It's in Battersea, and I know that one of the members of the band attended Alleyn's School in South London. However, the other band members may have originated from Brighton. I think a further source may be required. JoshHolloway 15:56, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
I've added a citation for the info on Latchmere; it's from a NME article. Zarcadia (talk) 12:09, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
This article's seriously out of date now. I'll try to patch it up a bit but I'm really not too good at this sort of thing, so a more extensive overhaul would be appreciated. 81.147.0.239 (talk) 17:51, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
In the discography section, Love You Better is linked to the wrong page. Could someone with more time than me please sort this out? 137.205.108.6 (talk) 19:35, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Not Indie Rock
[edit]Changing to alternative rock, solely for the fact that the label this band is on is related to UMG, one of the biggest labels out there. Obviously nothing independent about that.--F-22 RaptörAces High♠ 05:31, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- Indie rock is a genre now. Not the independence of the record label. Shake my head. Enjoyer of World (talk) 01:43, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Brighton
[edit]The band are in fact from Brighton. The members are generally from London but the band express themselves that they formed in Brighton, are in fact a Brighton band and ARE NOT a London band. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.142.180.157 (talk) 16:57, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Another Maccabees band?
[edit]There seems to be at leat one other band called The Maccabees, who released an EP or album in 1997 called Songs From the Weakest Link, which is still available on Amazon and streaming services (which is how I found it). I assume this band is unconnected with the current Maccabees, and it might be worth mentioning in case anyone gets confuse.109.157.228.53 (talk) 13:05, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Marks To Prove It
[edit]Someone needs to make an article for the new album, pronto 86.158.153.128 (talk) 11:16, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
They are GOING to disband
[edit]But they are doing a farewell tour first. So saying The Maccabees 8were* a band is too premature. They are still together at this moment! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.49.241.135 (talk) 11:59, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
- They have announced that they are disbanding. Farewell shows only serve to confirm that. Karst (talk) 12:01, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Maccabees in the Bible
[edit]An incorrect and unverified statement says that the Maccabees are not mentioned in the Bible but this is untrue, they are referenced in the Apocrypha Apocrypha and 1 Maccabees, which is included in the Catholic Bible as well as other versions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.24.220.141 (talk) 16:17, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
