Lone Ranger
[edit]The article says, "Gill resumed drawing The Lone Ranger [after Dell lost the rights] with the first Gold Key issue (Sept. 1964), continuing through #12 in 1970, after which the 28-issue series went into reprints." Pardon me, but Gold Key published reprints (of Dell material) from the get-go, going new only with #22. At least so says The Lone Ranger#Comic books, as well as the Grand Comics Database (the latter also dates #12 as October 1968, not "1970"), with great details further borne out in their indexes for the Dell issues cited as the initial venues for the various stories. Even the covers were Dell reprints (but new ones started with #21 instead of #22), proved by the GCD's cover galleries, strongly supporting the rest. Of the eight "References" linked in at the bottom, only two support the article. The Lambiek "comiclopedia" says, "[H]e worked primarily on the 'Lone Ranger' comic until the 1970s." POV Online says that Gill "...notched a 20+ year run on the Lone Ranger comics for Western Publishing (Dell, Gold Key)." A little further down the latter added, "When the Man From U.N.C.L.E. TV show was big, Gill illustrated dozens of books and activity books based on the series." The Man from U.N.C.L.E. ran from September 1964 to January 1968, matching the cover dates of Gold Key's first nine Ranger issues. Obviously, the Lone Ranger run, even if not reprints, would be much less work than "dozens" of U.N.C.L.E. publications, and not what Gill did "primarily" in this period, so these sources contradict each other. And neither supports "#12" as his last issue. I'd say someone recognized this artist's hand in the Gold Key issues (saying so in public) but failed to realize or didn't make it clear in the statement that they were reprints of old stories, and some other people took it from there. If, as it indeed appears, Tom did not ever draw LR for GK and we do need to change this, then the intro also needs changing, as Gill would have fallen noticeably short of a "more than 20-year run drawing" that comic. If he did (which I don't find plausible), then the Ranger article needs revision on this point, of course. --Tbrittreid (talk) 23:03, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
