Torzhok was originally a Karelian settlement named Torzha. Founded c.400 - 500 among many other Karelian settlements in Tver (Tihveri) area. It is still listed to have a Tver (Tihveri) Karelian minority. See Finnish language Wikipedia under title Tverin Karjala where is a list of settlements with Karelian population with their Karelian name variations, all missing from English Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.112.81.37 (talk) 18:45, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
