Distinction between ETAs (Electronic Travel Authorisations) and eVisas[edit]

As defined by the Wordnik dictionary (https://www.wordnik.com/words/visa), a visa is "an official authorisation appended to a passport, permitting entry into and travel within a particular country or region". Therefore ETAs (Electronic Travel Authorisations) are de facto eVisas (electronic visas). This is why ETAs issued by Pakistan, Grenada, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Australia (eVisitor), New Zealand (NZeTA) and the United States (ESTA) are classified as eVisas in this article. Please do not change that without further discussion. Thank you in advance for your understanding. Thearones (talk) 14:01, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Australia eVisitor[edit]

Australia is allowing the Polish citizens to use eVisitor to enter the country for tourism purpose. Roman

Yes, we know. But the eVisitor is basically an electronic visa. --Botev (talk) 13:47, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Then, Australia should be removed from all other "visa free" or "visa on arrival" Wikipedia pages of the nations of whose passport holders which are eligible for eVisitor, or ETA. This is just not consistent with information of other pages, and therefore is not accurate in my mind (check the pages of Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Hungary etc. In the same time, except Polish passports, there are some other countries' passports, where Australia is not mentioned as "visa free" or "visa on arrival" (for example Belgian passports). Perhaps, one should either include it everywhere, or nowhere. Greetings, Roman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.55.84.82 (talk) 16:24, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to take it off the maps in all other articles. --Botev (talk) 15:47, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I won't. I am not that bothered really. I just think that by not applying the same base-line, and standards towards the same issues makes the quality of the articles in the Wikipedia poor. That is all - the authors that undertook editing articles should undertake the comittment to doing a good work. Warm regards. Roman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.55.79.57 (talk) 07:40, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Given that Australia will issue eVisitor for Polish passport holders, shouldn't it be a blue colour on the map? Roman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.55.79.83 (talk) 14:22, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, because it requires pre-arrival actions, so it is a visa. See also: User talk:Passportguy#Australia eVisitor --Botev (talk) 13:50, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Australia allows Poles for e-visitors. Should it be not reflected in the list (as it is done for other similar cases in Wikipedia - for example for citizens of Denmark, or Czech Republic)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.235.215.0 (talk) 16:34, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it has recently been observed that there are two types of countries eligible for e-Visitors: "Low risk" countries and "High risk" countries. Low risk countries are those eligible for ETA. Poland is not an ETA-eligible country which means that processing an e-Visitor application may last up to a month, so it is by no means a quick and straightforward process. Therefore e-Visitor for Polish citizens should be considered a visa that must be pre-arranged. See here for more details: http://www.immi.gov.au/about/charters/client-services-charter/visas/1.0.htm By the way, I think that the article Visa policy of Australia needs updating. --Botev (talk) 00:29, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

There is a number of countries in Africa, and Asia that give Polish citzens a right to obtain visas on arrival. Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, Sri Lanka or Thailand are just a few. It would be interesting to mark these countries on the main map.

The majority of those countries simply issue visas on arrival to all (or almost all) foreign visitors, so it doesn't have to do with the Polish passport but with general immigration policy of those countries. Therefore it is irrelevant for the subject of the article. --BotevFixer (talk) 11:11, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Note quite true. While some countries issue VOA to nearly all citizens (e.g. Nepal, Jordan, East Timor) many others restrict that privelege to a select few (Iran, Gulf States just to name a few) Passportguy (talk) 20:21, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree based on a fact that other Wikipedia pages on passports of other countries (for example UK, or US) show on the map "visa on arrival" countries. It would be good to have the same standards for all "passport pages" for comparision. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.56.7.164 (talk) 08:41, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I updated the map with VOA countries in light blue (visa-free are in dark blue) Passportguy (talk) 20:19, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have added some countries. Are you sure about Kuwait? I believe several years ago it was hardly possible to get any visa for that country if you didn't have a pre-arranged invitation. Also, it is worth checking whether Malawi issues visas on border. It would surprise me if they didn't. --BotevFixer (talk) 18:52, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Kuwait issues VOA (see [1]). Do you have an official source confirming that Lesotho issues visas at the border ? http://www.drakensberg-tourism.com/lesotho-tourism.html seems to indicate that they do not. Passportguy (talk) 11:29, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I once read somewhere about Lesotho but I can't find it now, so I've removed the info. --BotevFixer (talk) 04:13, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Polishpassport inside.jpg[edit]

Image:Polishpassport inside.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

EU format[edit]

The format of the new Polish passport is not compatible with the EU requirements as the cover page is not using the country language(s). English and French are not an official languages in Poland. Same applies to the new Austrian passport BTW. Stupid, IMO, as everybody would recognize the document as a passport anyway ("PASZPORT"), while the introduction of additional languages is disturbing the esthetic appeal of the document.81.57.38.41 (talk) 23:25, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Visas to Botswana[edit]

Just found out on the site of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Poles do not need visas to Botswana anymore. Roman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.65.152.197 (talk) 16:02, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interestingly, the website of the Government of Botswana doesn't seem to confirm this: http://www.botswanatourism.co.bw/getting_in/visas.html (actually it's some "Tourist Board" but I got there through the link on the Botswana's Government website). I have also seen some reports on the Internet from travelers claiming they have received visas at the border. Any ideas as to what we should do in this case? --Botev (talk) 18:45, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

True. This is a bit confusing. I am investigating it, as interested in travelling to Botswana. The Embassy of Botswana in Sweden also told me that no visas were necessary... Wonder whether this is true? Roman —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.65.153.40 (talk) 19:16, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

According to IATA visa is not required for a stay of 90 day. [2] Regards, Ed88 (talk) 10:25, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, so we have at least two sources stating a visa-free access. Other sources are probably just not up to date, then. I am adding Botswana to the list. --Botev (talk) 08:52, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I meant that the map should be updated to the website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.128.236.143 (talk) 11:26, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What in particular do you think should be updated?--Twofortnights (talk) 11:56, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
