Origin of article[edit]

For the record, it should be stated here that this was not a new article when created as a standalone article on December 26, 2018. It was split from the article MAX Light Rail, initially without any expansion, and authorship information prior to that date can be found through the edit history of that article. There's a more detailed fleet chronology and other info here Jason McHuff (talk) 20:51, 19 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think this article should be a general TriMet fleet page instead of rail fleet only[edit]

With this you can list all the current and former buses where the main article can't. Trimetwes fan1003 (talk) 21:53, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. First, we can cite reliable sources for all the rail vehicle content, but not for buses (especially the retired ones, the earliest of which were retired 50+ years ago). Second, and probably more importantly, rail vehicles (and other aspects of rail transit, such as stations and lines) are simply more notable than buses, in my opinion. A MAX light rail vehicle (LRV) will carry far more passengers during its service life – and even just in a given year – than a bus will, not just because an LRV is more than twice as long (a two-car train five times as long) as a bus, but also because LRVs serve routes that are much more heavily used, on average, than bus routes. Although there are many Wikipedia articles about transit agencies that include full bus fleet lists, almost all are poorly sourced, if they cite any sources at all. A much stronger case could be made to delete most of those (especially when they include a lot of fine detail) than to add that kind of information here or on the TriMet page. I think it makes sense to continue to list the groups of buses currently in TriMet's fleet (although I feel that including a photo of every series is unwarranted, given that many of the groups are nearly identical to one another) – and sources are cited for most of that. And particularly notable past series (such as the Crown-Ikarus articulated buses) can and should be included in the text there, with citations, but I don't support a major expansion of bus fleet details here or in the TriMet article. – SJ Morg (talk) 09:34, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
