Contested deletion

[edit]

This page should not be speedily deleted because... It is a page about an organisation (guild) that has existed for over 40 years that represents the UK photographic news industry. It has included many notable people in UK media over the years. It is also represented by an annual awards ceremony which has served to recognise the very best of UK photojournalism over the last forty years cover the many categories that make up news photography --Bret Painter (talk) 21:36, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bret Painter: A news search for the organisation immediately returned pieces about Theresa May grimacing and Grenfell Tower burning. I have declined the speedy, I will WP:TROUT the nominator, and ask Andrew Davidson if he fancies improving this article so we can have a Did you know? feature on the front page. @Ritchie333: I have a whole list of nominations for this year if you need it? I must also add that the 'Awards' article is an old submission and at some point I need to write about what happened between 2008-2009. I just wanted the base to add to rather than writing everything out from scratch. I hope this makes sense.--Bret Painter
I don't need it just yet, I'm just picking out old awards coverage from the London Evening Standard, The Times and the Daily Telegraph for the minute. It's better to use completely independent coverage like major national newspapers, because it stops anybody putting a deletion tag on it. I've redirected the awards article to the organisation, as I think it'll be easier for us to develop one article, rather than two in parallel. (Don't worry, the history of an article is always available after a redirect so is preserved). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 22:50, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict Of Interest

[edit]

Naturally, I'm adding this in retrospect. I was completely unaware of the implications. Coming from a journalism background I figured I could easily be impartial.

I am owner of Fleet Street's Finest Ltd., my business partner is Alan Sparrow who is also the Chairman of the UK Picture Editors' Guild. I receive no financial reward or benefit from writing the UKPEG page it was strictly my opinion that one deserverved to exist given the Guilds importance and longevity. Someone had previously created an article for the Picture Editors Awards, it seemed illogical that no one had created the actual Guilds page. Cheers. It turns out the article was speedy deletion tagged by accident and the tagger has apologised. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 00:16, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
