Valentina Bergman or Alexander Serov?

Anyone know if the "partial Jewish descent" was from Valentina or Alexander? Don't be thrown off by the surname "Bergman" which may seem cliché. She was born in Moscow which had a rather large Swedish diaspora! : () "Bergman" is one of the most common Swedish surnames. Neither Serov nor Bergman are listed in the Russian Jewish Encyclopedia, so the question becomes difficult. Anyone? 141.211.251.67

According to [1] Мать В.Серова родилась в 1846 году в Москве в ассимилированной еврейской семье. Отец ее Семен Яковлевич Бергман и мать Августина Карловна (урожденная Гудзон), уроженцы Гамбурга, имели небольшой магазин. (Mother of Valentin Serov was born to an assimilated Jewis family in Moscow in 1846. Her farther, Semyon Yakovlevich Bergman, and her mother, Augustine Karlovna (nee Hudson) were residents of Hamburg and had a small shop...) Similar info is on many Russian jewish sites abakharev

- Does it mention if Valentina Serov was Russian or German? If her father was Karl Bergman, and her mother something Hudson, it would appear that the -ovna is only applied after the fact. 141.211.251.67 13:49, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
