Was Brahms at the premiere or not - sources strongly disagree
[edit]How do we reconcile sources that say utterly contradictory things:
- this says clearly that Brahms was not present at the 9 November premiere, and even gives the singer Anton Sistermans' thoughts on why Brahms declined his invitation to be the pianist
- but this attributes Brahms’ alleged absence to an urban legend, and says the pianist Coenraad V. Bos claimed that Brahms was not only there but also came backstage to thank Sistermans and Bos for their performance
- and here's a claimed quote from Bos's autobiography where this statement was originally made.
So, either:
- Coenraad Bos was making it up about Brahms being present (I'll be charitable and say he was conflating this event with some other event where Brahms was indeed present), or
- someone is attributing words to Sistermans that he never said, or
- Sistermans' memory was decidedly faulty.
At present, we're saying here that Brahms was present, but at Anton Sistermans we're saying he was not present. We can't have it both ways, just because our sources disagree. We have to at least acknowledge in both places the alternative version of events. -- ♬ Jack of Oz ♬ [your turn] 22:24, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Bad "Analysis of Song" links in Structure section
[edit]The four links in the Analysis column of the table in the Structure Section no longer exist. However, a Google search for "Vier ernste Gesänge" Brahms returns about 34,400 results. Therefore it seems likely that the content identified by the missing "Analysis of Song" links has been preserved elsewhere. Analyticalizer (talk) 06:34, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
