Military service

[edit]

Should we add a military service section since he was in several battles of the Croatian War of Independence Napalm Guy (talk) 17:39, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization of a "faculty of x"

[edit]

@Joy: No, a faculty is not an institution, it is a branch of an institution. An institution is "an established organization or corporation (such as a bank or university)" per Merriam-Webster. A "faculty of law" is not a proper name, as many universities have a faculty of law. It can be made into a proper name if it is presented as "Pompous University Faculty of Law", but that's not what I made into lower case. The Washington Post commonly uses lower case: "Alan Stone of Harvard University's faculty of law and medicine." Also, you took the apostrophe out of "master's thesis" without explaining why. @Chris the speller these places like the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo are habitually spelled exactly like that in the English Wikipedia because they do in fact function not as mere branches but as institutions themselves; in any event I don't think it's proper to start lowercasing references to them without amending the articles themselves first. --Joy (talk) 17:24, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that "Faculty of Xxx in Yyy" is used as something like a proper name only in a couple of universities in Serbia and Bosnia. If they are meant to be treated as a proper name, then you could slap a "Proper name" template around them. That would take care of two of these cases, but "Sarajevo University's faculty of political science" and "Belgrade University's faculty of law" would still take lower case, as they are not the full name of the (pseudo) institution, per MOS:INSTITUTIONS. Well yes, it was a topical change and in turn a topical revert. University faculties in former Yugoslavia often have a specific standalone stature. Please feel free to apply any template or a rephrasing that makes it less likely something has to be reverted in the future. --Joy (talk) 20:00, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have lower-cased instances where it appears to be generic use and threw in a "Proper name" template where the full name was used and apparently meant to be treated as a proper name. Chris the speller yack 01:42, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
