sourcing[edit]

This article is remarkably selective in its sourcing and excludes a great deal of the most important reporting on Darfur, most notably by the Small Arms Survey (Geneva) and the work of Eric Reeves, including a book devoted entirely to Darfur "(A Long Day's Dying: Critical Moments in the Darfur Genocide"; Key Press [Toronto], 2007). Half of a second book by Reeves is devoted to Darfur ("Compromising With Evil: An archival history of Greater Sudan, 2007 - 2012; an e-Book at www.compromisingwithevil.org). The "bibliography" is laughable: one book by Flint and de Waal. Important, but there have been many books on Darfur, some by longstanding students of Darfur. This article omits so much, despite its length, that it is difficult not to conclude that there is a deliberate and slanted selection of materials cited on a wide range of subjects. Splitting proposal[edit]

I propose that the History section, up until yesterday called the Timeline section be split off into its own article (Timeline of the War in Darfur). As it currently stands the section is quite large and quite list like, it lists off things that are, in the grand scheme of the war unimportant to how it played out and was clearly built up as the conflict was onging. I think the article could do with a summary of the war, but I am also reluctant to throw out most of the information in the timeline even if the events listed are irrelevant to how the war played out, hence my splitting proposal. Turns out the page Sudanese conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile also deals heavily with War in Darfur (And a lot of content that is unrealted to the conflict in South Kordofan and Blue Nile due to the page formerly being about both conflicts) in the same way that this article does, I think I may go ahead and do the split. I think a re-write might be better than a split. See War in Sudan (2023–present)#Course of the war for an excellent way of writing a timeline without the need to have an actual timeline.
if you still think there are excessive information, than having an article about each period of the conflict would be more beneficial, e.g., Hassan al-Turabi era and Resurgence of the RSF, as the article also miss out on Gaafar Nimeiry era and Sadiq al-Mahdi era. A re-write is something this page certainly needs, but I think both a re-write and a timeline could be useful in a similiar vain as to how the current war in Sudan both has page of its own (War in Sudan (2023–present)) and a timeline page (Timeline of the War in Sudan (2023–present)) DervotNum4 (talk) 21:55, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree a timeline is necessary along with a rewrite of the main article; this is a twenty-year war with not a single page about a specific incident in the war.
