Why Wellington?[edit]

If I read this (not overly clear) page correctly, the original Wellington Church was on Wellington Street, which Google Maps places just west of the city center. So I'm thinking this is the same body; that they moved from Wellington Street to Hillhead, but kept the name. Is this correct? -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 18:48, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. U P congregations quite often relocated; Wellington Church was previously in Wellington Street. Thanks for your welcome message.--Matthewross 19:15, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Anti-Burgher"[edit]

I'd like to nominate this article on WP:DYK (which means it is quite likely to appear on the main page, and receive lots of visitors). To do that, I need to cook up a pithy factoid for the "did you know" line. I was hoping to use:

...Glasgow's Wellington Church was founded in 1792 as an Anti-Burgher congregation.

but we don't have an anti-burgher article, and I've no idea if we have it under some other name. Is there a sensible article for that subject? -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 22:37, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Relationship with the University[edit]

Although the University maintains its own chapel in the nearby Gilbert-Scott buildings, the Wellington hosts both religious and secular university events.

Which ones? Any source? More importantly perhaps, I believe the Wellington acted as the University chapel after the University's move to the West End, before the chapel was built, which would be the best part of fifty years -- well worth mentioning. But I'm reluctant to add this without a source. Can anyone supply one? Flapdragon (talk) 20:21, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
