Plagarism
[edit]A search bot just accused me of plagarism. Funny thing is, I am writing my own account, using a source from 1940. Likely that this means we are using the same information from the first two chapters. My information comes from the book Yellow Wolf: His Own Story by Lucullus Virgil McWhorter, published in 1940 and available online for free at Archive.org. <http://www.archive.org/details/yellowwolfhisown002070mbp>. Everything has come from the first two chapters, and from my knowledge editing and writing the article Lucullus Virgil McWhorter. Once piece of information needs to be added from a site http://www.friendsnezpercebattlefields.org/yellowwolf.htm for the words "Wallowa band" in the info box.Jacqke (talk) 03:41, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- Please don't worry about it. There is no way that there was a a real problem when all you had done was put information into an info box. I'm sorry that you have been subject to so many problems from bots and others in making this article tonight. A piece of advice for another time....don't hit save on a new article until you have a bit more written and sourced. In my experience it reduces the problems you can face. --Slp1 (talk) 03:49, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- I see that. I started this article in reverse; usually do the info box last. Thanks, again!Jacqke (talk) 03:52, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Alternate names and spellings for Yellow Wolf's wife and son
[edit]Another lead to follow for Yellow Wolf's wife and son; haven't found a source for these names yet, other than this site. <http://www.clipartof.com/portfolio/jvpd/photo/i-ah-to-tonah-or-little-woman-mountain-1086003.html>. Her name is very much like that recorded elsewhere. Haven't seen his name; he is "Jasper" everywhere I have looked.Jacqke (talk) 04:08, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- Found what appears to be original source, the Lib of Congress, <http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/98519396/resource/>.Jacqke (talk) 06:44, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Photo of Sgt. Jeff Jackson
[edit]I'm going to remove this photograph of Sgt. Jeff Jackson, identified in the caption as a "great-great-grandson of Yellow Wolf", from the article for the following reasons:
- No reliable, verifiable source is cited to support that identification (the reference given simply accepts Sgt. Jackson's statement, "I was told this by a tribe member. Yellow Wolf was my great-great-grandfather.");
- Sgt. Jackson is nowhere mentioned in the text of this article, so his photograph does not clarify or illustrate anything in the article—it has been stuck without any context or explanation in the "See also" section;
- He is not listed in the Nez Perce article among Notable Nez Perce people; and
- He is not sufficiently notable to have his own Wikipedia article.
Although I don't mean in any way to dishonor Sgt. Jackson, having his photograph in this article is no more justifiable than sticking a photograph of a non-notable and self-identified great-great-grandson of Theodore Roosevelt at a random point in the article about TR, unrelated to anything in the text of that article.
Even if Sgt. Jackson's ancestry were well-documented, being descended from a notable person doesn't by itself make a person notable or relevant to an article about the ancestor. If, on the other hand, Sgt. Jeff Jackson has accomplished something that would merit his addition to the list of Notable Nez Perce people and the creation of a separate WP article about him, with sufficiently reliable and verifiable sources to establish his notability, by all means let that be done. Then—and only then—it would be entirely appropriate to restore his photograph to this article, adding a mention of him in the text of this article with a link to the article about him for those who want further information.--Jim10701 (talk) 15:54, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
