Ryu
[edit]Removed RYU since he's of Japanese origin — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.112.121.159 (talk) 06:24, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yoo and RYU are different surnames.
- These need to be separated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.16.142.123 (talk) 06:49, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren't. Not sure how you would go about making the separation, especially if the hanja for a particular person are not known. -- Visviva 08:33, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Yu or Yoo?
[edit]I think it should be 'Yu'. English is the only language where the double o (oo) makes an /u/ sound. Also, the Revised Romanization of Korean writes '유' as 'Yu', not 'Yoo'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.200.159.11 (talk) 20:16, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. No prejudice against a new RM discussing the merits of Yu (Korean name) as a title. Jenks24 (talk) 09:57, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Yoo (Korean name) → Ryu (Korean name) –
The official name is Ryu since 2007 at South Korea. And It came into use long ago at North Korea and other Korean language world. Thank you. --Idh0854 (talk) 14:38, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- Comment according to our article, 柳 and 류 are "Ryoo"/"Ryu", while 劉, 兪, 庾 are "Yoo"/"Yu", do you contend that the other three are also Ryu? 70.49.127.65 (talk) 23:42, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose/neutral: I'd feel more convince to change it if there are reliable sources to support that the official romanization of 'Ryu', also covers the other surnames as listed in the article.--Michaela den (talk) 10:12, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose per 70.49.127.65 and User:Michaela den but would support a move to Yu (Korean name) per the comment above. "Yoo" is nonstandard romanization and could stand for 요오 (whatever that is). — AjaxSmack 02:35, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose - one surname can't be done in isolation. The R- L- silent- variation affects several surnames, and needs to be settled on Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Korea-related articles, not here. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:07, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
