1991 All-Big Ten Conference football team

  • New enough, nominated in timely fashion, long enough, and no content issues with neutrality, verifiability, or close paraphrasing. Hook is verifiable and interesting and is an acceptable length. Though not directly related to the hook, but in the same area, I have a concern in the article with "Howard also swept the 1991 national player of the year awards ..." It would probably be more accurate to add "major" to say "major national player of the year awards", but is it definitive which ones are considered "major"? Alternatively, it can be reworded as: "Howard also captured multiple national player of the year awards in 1991 including ..."—Bagumba (talk) 00:28, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
Pretty clear that Camp, Maxwell, and Heisman are the major national player of the year awards, but I tweaked per your suggestion. Cbl62 (talk) 03:01, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
OK.—Bagumba (talk) 06:22, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
  • I also have a question on "The organizations selecting All-Big Ten teams in 1991 included the Associated Press (AP)." Are there other organizations besides AP? If not, it should be reworded to remove the plural "organizations". Isn't there a coaches poll, or did it started later?—Bagumba (talk) 06:22, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
  • It has been nearly four weeks since the above, and nominator has not responded, even to a talk-page ping. This needs action right away. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:44, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
  • Yes, there were other selectors. Cbl62 (talk) 20:48, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
  • @Bagumba - Throughout the recent decades, there has been both a coaches-selected team and media-selected team for the Big Ten Conference, so the plural formulation of "organizations" is correct as used in the article's introduction. Cbl62 (talk) 17:51, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
@Bagumba: Could you now take another look at this? Cbl62 (talk) 21:53, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

A couple of remaining problems (either with the article or my understanding of baseball...American football...whichever one this is). The article is called "1991 All-Big Ten Conference football team" but it is exclusively about the ""1991 AP All-Big Ten Conference football team"; the Key isn't that helpful as it only explains AP means Associated Press and doesn't tell us what AP-1 and AP-2 mean; and it isn't clear where the list is cited to. Fix those (or me) and it should be good to go. Belle (talk) 23:55, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for taking this on, Belle. I have modified the "Key" to reflect the distinction between AP-1 and AP-2. I have also clarified the sourcing for the list entries. As for calling it the "1991 'AP' All-Big Ten Conference football team," that would be inconsistent with the protocol used by members of the WikiProject College football for All-America and all-conference teams. From year-to-year, the organizations selecting teams change, and in some years there are multiple selectors which are all aggregated under the generic name. See, e.g., 1948 College Football All-America Team, 1948 All-Pacific Coast Conference football team, 1948 All-Big Nine Conference football team, and 1948 All-SEC football team. As additional 1991 selectors are found, they will be added to this article, which needs to have a name that is not tied solely to the AP. Cbl62 (talk) 00:28, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
All the changes are good; let's run it into the DYK end-zone (this is some American football terminology I might have heard; I've no idea; it's probably like saying "Let's score a goal at cricket") Belle (talk) 00:56, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
