24th anniversary of Tiananmen Square protests of 1989

  • So let's start with the basics... this article is filled with interesting well cited information and I learned a lot reading it. I think on that note the DYK passes. But here's my concern... it seems that the majority of this article isn't about the 24th anniversary except in passing, and the vast majority better belongs in Memorials for the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. Although there is plenty of news about this particular event, there's also plenty of news about all the others. I think I would be happier if this article was more tightly focussed on this event, as opposed to things that happened at the same time, or things that happen every time. • @Maury Markowitz: Thanks for your comment. I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at, and what you would define as "the event". Of course, by its scale, the central event was the memorial vigils in Hong Kong (and the row over the slogan). And if we were to refer exclusively to this, the title would be very flabby because there was plenty of other activity, which was rather more diffuse. There was a bunch of different events. Then, also equally important, because the PRC government would rather the memory of 1989 simply disappeared, there was the expected repression and clampdowns by the PRC government that verge onto the ridiculous. -- Ohc ¡digame!¿que pasa? 23:54, 6 June 2013 (UTC)
"what you would define as "the event". - I am referring to the 24th anniversary, as opposed to the 23rd, 22nd, etc. My question is how is this one , the 24th, significantly different than the last one, the 23rd, or the one before that? As you put it, "the expected repression and clampdowns by the PRC government" occured those times too. There are a number of things mentioned that suggest a link to the 24th, but it seems they also occurred on every other anniversary as well. Others don't seem to be related to the anniversaries at all, and are included simply because they happened around the same time. This is nothing more than critical review, and you should feel free to circular file it, but if we have a "master article" on the topic as a whole, then the sub-articles for each year's event would appear to be better served as, effectively, DIFFs. OK I'll make a stab at doing that after the dyk has been put through. Thanks, -- Ohc ¡digame!¿que pasa? 09:36, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
CAN someone close this please? Thanks, -- Ohc ¡digame!¿que pasa? 13:46, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
