Canales investigation[edit]

  • ... that the 1919 Canales investigation heard testimony from 80 witnesses accusing the Texas Rangers of mass murders? Source: "Cited from Slate: "Rosenda Mega, “47 years old, American citizen, born at Fort Davis, Texas, but residing at Van Horn, Texas,” told the commission that he had special knowledge of this event. Mega had spoken with people who lived in the West Texas town of Porvenir, and heard them recount the story of the murder of 15 residents of the small village, which took place on Jan. 28, 1918." This is repeated in another source, "Forgotten Dead" by Oxford University Press, on page 64, and the Texas State Historical Association page on the massacre.
    • ALT1:... that the Canales investigation heard 80 witnesses describing murders, kidnappings and other crimes committed by the Texas Rangers in the early 20th century? Source: The entire article is a sourced support for this statement.

  • Comment: I know this is a bit controversial, but it's an important bit of history, and all supported by the sources. I'm hoping for an interesting hook - I think mine are OK, but I am open to suggestions.

It's been removed from the article and the DYK Nom. Thanks! Owlsmcgee (talk) 02:20, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Full review needed now that image issue has been dealt with. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:49, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
  • Date and length checks out. No policy problems. Exhaustively sourced. I prefer ALT1; I think it reads better. Good to go! ♠PMC(talk) 23:11, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
