Dave Thomas (politician)
- ... that Dave Thomas described his win in a Springville, Alabama, mayoral election as handing his opponent "his head on a platter"? Source: Springville, Ala. mayor running for governor: 'I am a free-market economist...and I smoke pot' - "I got the attention of some people in politics when I handed Butch Isley his head on a platter," said Thomas. "Beating him by more than two to one, that kind of got some attention."
- Comment: This is my fourth DYK nomination. Thank you!

- New enough in mainspace and long enough. No QPQ necessary for fourth nomination. Hook fact checks out and is present in article—quite interesting! Article is neutral and good to go. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 21:06, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- That said, I do note that the subject is running for election on May 24, so it may need to sit a bit before appearing. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 21:07, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Sammi Brie and Kafoxe: any chance the hook could be rephrased? It's worded a little confusingly, seems like Thomas is saying that he handed his own head on a platter to his opponent. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 21:49, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Sammi Brie and Kafoxe: how's this?
- ALT0a: ... that Dave Thomas said that his Springville, Alabama, mayoral election win was like handing his opponent's head to him on a platter?
- @Sammi Brie and Kafoxe: oops, didn't sign the post- it's clunkier, but I think it's less ambiguous. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 07:23, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- Could also do this formulation: Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 20:15, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- ALT0b:
... that Dave Thomas was handed his opponent's "head on a platter" in an Alabama mayoral race?- @Sammi Brie: but he handed Isley his own head on a platter, right? Thomas wasn't given Isley's head... theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 20:40, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Theleekycauldron: yeah, I got wrapped up in that in trying to clean things up. How about... Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 20:51, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

- ALT0c: ... that Dave Thomas handed his opponent his "head on a platter" in an Alabama mayoral race?
- @Sammi Brie: it's punchier, which is good, but now we have the same ambiguity problem as at the start—I read ALT0 and thought that Thomas handed Isley Thomas's head on a platter. Maybe:
- ALT0d: ... that an Alabama mayoral candidate received "his head on a platter", according to winning candidate Dave Thomas?
- No signature for pinging Sammi Brie theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (she/they) 20:55, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Theleekycauldron: I'm fine with that wording. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 21:02, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
